Pacific Gas and Electric upgrades equipment, following West Vallejo supermarket outage

Jun 21, 2023

PG&E has upgraded materials in a segment of its lines that connects West Vallejo’s main power line to the Marin Street Grocery Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, which went without electricity for more than 24 hours.

Grocery Outlet lost power around 9 p.m. on Sunday due to an equipment failure in the section where the main line splices lines with the supermarket, PG&E spokesperson Megan McFarland said.

McFarland said utilities company personnel arrived on Curtola Parkway — where the failure occurred — within an hour after being notified. PG&E sectionalized the outage, restoring power that same day to roughly 800 impacted customers — except for the Grocery Outlet.

The cause of the failure is under investigation, and the company installed a plastic cable on the existing line on Thursday morning. Grocery Outlet is relying on PG&E-provided generator the company installed early Tuesday morning, which returned the supermarket to the West Vallejo main line.
