Miriam Texidor is September Artist of the Month

The Deltona Art Club’s Artist of the Month for September is Miriam Texidor. Her acrylic painting All Lives Matter is on display in the entrance to Deltona City Hall.

Texidor said her contemporary painting was inspired during the pandemic by “COVID and the racism in this country that continues to divide us and the anger towards police officers.”

Texidor was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, and has loved creating art since childhood. Over the years, she grew to love painting and drawing people and abstract art. She works in different mediums, such as acrylic, clay, mosaic and stained glass.

Texidor, her husband and their three kids moved to Florida in 1990 because her mom was here, and this was where she wanted to raise her children.

She was creating and selling her art locally. Then she attended Daytona State College for graphic design and continued as a freelance artist, designing a logo for one of Deltona’s elementary schools.

Texidor worked in health care, and after 15 years, she went back to college to become a respiratory therapist. She decided to retire early after 27 years in health care, and works for herself as a Realtor in Deltona and in her art business full time. She recently finished a certification in Google Fundamentals of Digital Marketing.

Texidor is a new member of the Deltona Art Club. She says she wanted “to be a part of an art group that loves the arts and the city they live in” and to “learn from other women who are amazing artists themselves.”

The Deltona Art Club meets at 9:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month September-May in the Scrub Jay Room at the Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave.
